Cyanotypes

This new collection is a response to what we can and can’t control. The heavy rain which has been with us quite a bit during this summer of 2021, compounded with the ongoing travel restrictions, triggered my urge to create exotic images full of summer warmth and happy memories.

As a photographic artist I can control my colour palette, my subject matter and my techniques.
I began this series by making wet cyanotypes using foliage found on the banks of the River Tyne.
Next, I digitally blended my cyanotype prints with a photo which I had taken a while back of the Mediterranean sea. I then took macro images of shells, mini starfish and coral back in my studio which I have used to punctuate my cyanotypes and to build up layers of interest.
